Therapists at Five Rivers Mental Health Clinic are trained and experienced in play therapy from a variety of orientations. Play is a child’s language. Play therapy is a great way for our younger clients to communicate about what is troubling them without having to be able to articulate sometimes complex emotions through words. Play encourages self-expression and development of self-efficacy. It also provides children the tools to learn new social and relational skills. We have a specific play therapy room equipped with tools to help children express themselves and practice coping skills.
Therapists use both client-centered and cognitive-behavior play therapy orientations. Techniques include the use of expressive arts, sand tray, and therapeutic games.
